Verizon delivers internet through its 100% fiber optic Fios network that features fast download speeds (the lowest Fios plan is 200 Mbps), near-symmetrical upload speeds and exceptional connection reliability.

Verizon has been a consistent leader in customer satisfaction, recently receiving the title of “Highest Customer Satisfaction with Residential Internet Service in the East. 8 Years in a Row.”

Verizon runs its business around three operational units; Verizon Consumer Group, Verizon Business Group and Verizon Media Group.

Best Verizon Internet Plans

Since its launch in 2004, the Verizon Fios fibre optic network has set the standard for the internet. With Fios, Verizon offered high-speed broadband service over its 100% fibre-optic network for the first time. This innovative technology provides customers with faster data speeds and more reliable service.

However, Fios is limited to a few states in the North East. If you are not on the Fios network you can still get Verizon High-Speed Internet (HSI) with download speeds up to 15 Mbps. As a DSL internet service, Verizon HSI uses existing telephone lines to deliver internet to more areas, including many rural locations.

Of course, this will only get you a fraction of the speeds that Verizon Fios provides. For light users, this may be all they need and becomes their connection to the world. Like Verizon Fios Home Internet plans, Verizon High-Speed Internet plans are contract-free.

Common terms and features:

  • No contracts– No worries about early termination and consequent fees.
  • No data caps– No need to monitor data usage as there are no caps. Verizon does say that in case of excessive usage they might suggest moving to a more suitable plan.
  • Free Installation– If you order online, Verizon will waive the $99 installation fee.
  • No service fee– Besides an equipment fee (which is waived if you pick the Gigabit Connection plan), there are no hidden fees with Verizon Fios. The price listed is the real monthly price.
  • 24/7 support – Verizon Fios offers a 24/7 tech support team online.
  • Symmetrical upload – Upload speed almost the same as download speed. This can be of great help while working from home.

Pros

  • 100% fiber optic network – At this point, fiber optic is the best technology for delivering internet. Verizon Fios is 100% fiber. It makes for fast speeds, high-quality TV picture and exceptional overall service reliability, with no distortion or lag even over great distances.
  • No contracts – Verizon Fios plans require no long-term commitment, so you can change your plan at any time without penalty
  • No data caps – No need to monitor data usage as there are no caps. Verizon does say that in case of excessive usage they might suggest moving to a more suitable plan.
  • 24/7 support – Verizon Fios offers a 24/7 tech support team online.
  • Simple plans – Verizon keeps it really simple with its Fios internet plans. Just three tiers. YOu go from Fast to Faster to Fastest, with an increase in monthly cost to match.
  • Satisfied customers – A consistent leader in customer satisfaction, in an industry notorious for low customer satisfaction scores. It recently received the title of “Highest Customer Satisfaction with Residential Internet Service in the East. 8 Years in a Row.”

Cons

  • Limited availability – Verizon Fios is currently available only to residents of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions
  • Equipment fees – TV equipment fees can add $12/mo. or more for each device and the router fee will add $15/mo. to your bill; however, gigabit customers will receive a router at no extra cost

Frequently Asked Questions

Fios is Verizon’s fiber optic network, the latest in internet technology, that delivers the fastest and most stable internet. Fiber optic network is being laid out and is growing. At this point the network serves the North East and Mid Atlantic states of the US. Fiber-optic internet is connected via thin glass cables and transferred via light signals (hence the “optic”). This connection type provides for connections up to 1Gbps, making it lightning fast.

For areas not served by Fios, Verizon offers high-speed DSL internet plans. DSL internet (which stands for digital subscriber line) is connected via telephone lines and delivers your internet by separating the data frequency from your calling frequency. Don’t’ expect Fios speeds on the DSL network.
