Straight Talk Wireless began in 2009 and is owned by Carlos Slim, found of America Movil which is the company behind the TracFone brand as well. The cellular service is provided through the top four major providers in U.S. which are AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. This allows access to these data speeds at a lower cost.
All phones previously tied to these four services are eligible for the “Bring Your Own Device”, BYOD, program that Straight Talk offers. The only stipulation is that the phone cannot still be under contract and cannot have current financial obligations. You can also choose to bring an unlocked phone with you.
In 2020 Straight Talk enrolled over 270,000 new customers. This brought their total number of subscribers to 9.743 million. From the year 2019 to 2020, they added a total 414,000 customers to their service. This service alone brings in 46 percent of Tracfone’s entire subscriber count.
Though they have been offering payment plans for purchasing a new phone for a while, they are just now rolling out their new 0% financing lease-to-own payment plan. However, this is not available in the states of Minnesota, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
