About Consumer Cellular

Greg Pryor and John Marick launched Consumer Cellular in October of 1995. The company is headquartered in Portland, and is entirely U.S based. It operates in three more locations in Phoenix, and has a support center located in Redmond. Consumer Cellular currently employs over 2,400 people.

To provide its wireless service, Consumer Cellular uses network capacities from T-Mobile and AT&T. In addition, the company resells AT&T’s wireless services to other MVNO’s.

In 2008, the company became the go-to provider for AARP members, making it the first phone company that extensively targets people over 50.

When Consumer Cellular entered into an agreement with Sears Stores in 2011, the company established its initial retail presence. Three years later, Target Stores added the company to its assortment, and in 2018, Consumer Cellular first appeared in U.S. Best Buy stores.

To facilitate the sales of their devices, Consumer Cellular set up a financing strategy called EasyPay. This made it much easier for their customers to purchase devices that cost $200 and more. Later that year, the enterprise started a partnership with SquareTrade and began trading in phone protection plans.

To stay true to their interaction with senior citizens, Consumer Cellular obtained the rights to a device called GrandPad in 2018. It’s a tablet created for older persons, and it’s designed for viewing photos, reading the news, or video chatting with relatives.

Since 2009, Consumer Cellular has made the list of fastest-growing enterprises. As of this year, the number of its subscribers stands at about four million.
